Policies
UEN’s policies were designed to foster the health of a volunteer-based, community-focused site.
Journalism
Our primary goal is to be a helpful, quick, and pithy news source for Etsy’s sellers and buyers. With each post, we aim to provide the relevant information and as full a context as can reasonably be hoped for in a short post. Through providing a news source, we hope to support Etsy and its growing community of buyers and sellers; thus, we are inherently a pro-Etsy site.
It’s important that our writers be trusted to post the important news regardless of how we feel about it, which is why having a diverse and thoughtful team is so vital.
Though we want to stick to the facts, it would be a disservice to strip the talented team of editors (the majority of whom are very successful sellers) of the opportunity to give their thoughts on the issues. So, we strive to keep each post roughly 80% news and 20% editorial (the beloved 80/20 rule), and we leave the bulk of our opinions for the comments.
Topics
We’re limiting our coverage to news and updates about Etsy.com. Our content is recent and related directly to Etsy.
Accuracy
We will never post anything that we do not believe to be absolutely correct; however, we make no guarantees of accuracy of editors’ posted content. Quoted statements may be retracted or changed, and UEN may not always be made aware of updates. We are merely a secondary source of information, and we ask that you rely on the source data provided to make your business decisions.
Comments
Given that this is a public site, indexed on the major search engines and visited by thousands of Etsy members daily, we request that all comments be thoughtful and constructively intended.
That said, UEN does not take responsibility for what’s posted in the comments. Each comment on this site is the opinion of its owner, and just because it appears on our site does not mean that UEN endorses the contents in any fashion. If Etsy takes action against the writer of a particular comment, UEN will not offer any protection.
We reserve the right to delete spam, highly abusive comments, comments that post a safety concern, or accidental duplicates. Examples of abuse are harassment of another user, libel, and unsupported wild claims (an extension of libel).
Repeated abusive commenting or spamming will result in a user being banned from the site. We reserve the right to ban users without explanation. The ability and right to ban users is for the protection of UEN’s editors, the future of the site, and those who are the objects of abuse. Banning only removes a user’s right to comment; they can still read all parts of the site.
We reserve the right to change these policies at any time, and we’re grateful for your continued cooperation.
