So sorry for the downtime, but I think we’re back up and running on our new server. Maybe my brain is just tired from working on this all day, and it’s giving me a sweet sweet mirage? Let me know what you see.
Update: If you were having trouble logging in, please try again. Thanks to Dangerousmezzo for helping me troubleshoot this!
More updatey goodness: Did you notice more weirdness? That was our upgrade to WordPress version 2.5, which puts us on the cutting edge. I really think I’m done messing things up now. :)

Today, March 30, many users have noticed gaps in their “threads you have posted in” section.
All previously locked threads on the Etsy forums have been deleted. This probably happened last night during the forum maintenance downtime.
This includes threads locked for length which did not break any rules, and threads which contained important admin announcements. All the old constitution discussions from last year, etc.
All are now brick walls.
some forum threads discussing the deletions, which may themselves be deleted soon

UPDATE 6:15 PM, EDT
The locked threads have been restored.
Locked threads are back but are no longer searchable. If you have the direct url you can read it but they will not appear in forum search.

Hi readers,
We’re moving UEN to a new server. Hopefully your use of the site will not be disturbed, but in case you notice anything off, that’s what we’re up to.
You can still use the site as normal: Your updates and comments will be moved over just fine.
Check and see whether we’re at the new or old server by looking at the bright orange text in our sidebar.
Thanks!

In this Storque article and this thread, Etsy announces that batch shipping changes are now possible.
Based on the community’s feedback and suggestions, sellers now have the ability to update the shipping on multiple items at once! The new batch shipping feature works very similarly to the sections feature in which you can assign sections to a list of your items all at once. Keep in mind, you will need to have preset shipping profiles in order to batch assign them to your items. Find step by step instructions right here on how to create a shipping profile from our Shipping FAQ’s.
Here’s how it works:
Click the new “Batch Shipping” text link under the “Items” heading in Your Etsy when you are logged into your account.
You will see a list of all your currently listed items on Etsy with a box next to each one (this is where you will assign a shipping profile).
Select your preset shipping profile from the drop down menu next to all all of the items you wish to edit.
Click the “save changes” button at the top right of the screen and you are all set!
Special note: Once you save changes to your batch shipping edit, the box to the side of the item will go back to reading “no change.” Each time you go back to edit your batch shipping profiles, the boxes will retain their previous assignment; however, they will simply read “no change” if you choose not to change the shipping profile each time.

Tech Update: Apostrophes Allowed in Item Titles
Thanks to several community suggestions, we’ve updated the listing process to now allow apostrophes in item titles!
Brush up on your grammar skills and learn everything you ever wanted to know about the apostrophe on wikipedia. Now you can officially do the happy dance about grammatically correct item titles! It’s a perfect time to list a new item to test it out or simply edit some of your current titles to reflect the change!

According to this Storque article, sellers can now download their sales information in CSV format to spreadsheet programs on your computer.
Sellers who do their own accounting will be excited to hear this: you can now download your sales information to your computer in CSV format ( Here here! for “comma separated values”)!
A CSV is a type of file that can be opened by programs such as Microsoft Excel or Open Office Calc (a free spreadsheet program). If you go to Your Etsy > Sold (orders) you’ll now see a link at the bottom to “Download this sales data as a CSV.” By selecting the month and year near the top of the page, you can download sales info from your shop for each month you’ve been in business.
Did you know CSV files are also available for your monthly Etsy bill? To download a month’s worth of billing information, click on the appropriate month in Your Etsy > Your Etsy Bill and click “Download this entire monthly statement as a CSV file.”

According to this Storque article, you can now search the fora by title as well as post.
Searching the Community section’s forums has become a bit easier today, as we’ve rolled out a forum “title only” search option. Previously, the only way to search the forums was to search all text across all posts.
You’ll find that “forum titles” is now the default search method when browsing forum pages. This will allow you to limit the range of your forums searches to only thread titles.
This is also a good time to remind everyone using the forums to use descriptive thread titles! Descriptive thread titles make it easier to scan through the forums, and they will now make it a lot easier to search the forums at large.
This is the first of a few near-term forum search upgrades — let us know if you like it!
You can make comments and suggestions in this thread.

It is with great sadness that UEN must report on the impending closure of EtsyTools.
We will let Interrobang’s closing post speak for itself:
Goodbye and Good Luck
Mar 19, 2008interrobang
It is with a heavy heart that I announce today that Etsytools will be closing in two weeks time. It’s something we’ve been talking about for a little while now, but today the camel’s back was finally broken.
I will never understand why so many people think the world owes them. I get dozens of emails every day from people who think I could do better, and I should do better because they say so. I should be more professional, I should respond quicker, I should offer more features, less features, better features. I should pay hundreds of dollars for a server that is lightening fast so you don’t have to wait 10 seconds for the charts to load. I’ve been called every name under the sun, I’ve been threatened with legal action, and today I received a death threat. A fucking death threat!
I recognise that for every jealous idiot there are a dozen wonderful etsians out there, but I just don’t care anymore. I used to love the community but it has changed so much lately I don’t even recognise it. I don’t have any faith in Etsy anymore, and I’m tired of hacking away at this website just to be humiliated and mocked on the forums. There are people who will be jumping for joy to see this website close, and I’m glad to finally have satisfied the fuckwits. Leave me alone now.
Anyone who purchased advertising in the past week or so will be refunded. Everyone who purchased before that should use their impressions before we close the site on March 31st, or contact me and we’ll sort something out.
Thankyou to everyone who has offered their support and encouragement over the past 8 months. I’m sorry to those who are disappointed, but there’s just so much more to life than Etsy. If anyone wants me, I’ll be at St Kilda Beach.
Juln’s Heart-o-matic will be returning to its original home at majaba.org
We at UEN have enjoyed our association with EtsyTools and as sellers and buyers we appreciate all of the time, effort and expense they have put into providing the Etsy community with free and useful tools. We wish Interrobang and Vertis the best of luck in the future.

In this forum thread, Etsy admin RevolvingDork explains the most recent loss of item views.
RevolvingDork says:
Hi all,
Last night one of our web servers suffered a hardware failure and had to be removed from the group of public-facing machines. Because of the way listing view tally data is currently stored, part of the listing tally data has been lost. This means that some ( roughly 1/10 of all ) listings have had their view tally data reset to 0.
The view tally data on Etsy is stored in a different and more temporary manner than any of the other data on the site. This is because view tally data is very difficult to store quickly ( it is updated thousands of times every second ) and because it is considered to be nonessential when compared to things like sales records, conversations, listings, user profiles, billing information, etc.
“Nonessential” doesn’t mean “not important”, however — we know very well how sellers feel about their view tally information and we want to make this information as reliable as possible. We plan to begin developing a system that will store view tally data permanently and reliably, and we’d like to be able to tie it into tracking other information that sellers have been asking for, such as referrer information. This may take a little while, as much of the focus of the team is currently placed on scaling the site to handle the ever-growing traffic we’ve been experiencing.
We apologize for the frustrations caused by the existing view tally system. We know that it’s very hard to run a shop online without reliable statistics. We’re anxious to provide you with better and more reliable statistics, and we’ll be getting them to you as soon as possible.
Thank you for your patience!
