You probably suspected this. But as Emily has now confirmed, Etsy does not actively look for miscategorized, mistagged, or simply inappropriate (e.g., cell phones) listings.

Yes. Flag it! Sometimes, newbies have a hard time with the categories, and we like to help them work it out. We absolutely police category problems, but we do it through flagging.

So please flag. If you don’t, Etsy won’t be able to fix the problem.

EDIT: here’s Vanessa’s matching thread.
The Global Microbrand workshop.
Many entrepreneurs want to grow their businesses but at the same time, they want to remain in control of what they produce. At Etsy, we would like to help more independent artists make a living from what they make. We’ve discussed trying to find an alternative model to “business-as-usual.” This Monday July 2nd, we’ll be opening our doors at the Labs and to the online Workshop to further discuss how to remain independent while creating a sustainable business. Part of this entails a new approach to marketing and communications.
On Monday July 2nd at 7pm, we’ll be hosting an informal talk led by Englishman Antonio Gould: The Global Microbrand: Using the Web to Stay Small whilst Selling all over the World. Antonio will address many of the issues Etsy sellers face as they try to make a name for themselves. He has worked as a new media consultant in Europe and approached Etsy, seeing it as an interesting manifestation of many of his key points.
If you are NYC-area based, please join us in person for this free talk. As many of our members can’t be there face-to-face, we’ll be using the Workshop to open up the discussion to everyone. Please wait for the virtual doors to be unlocked in the Workshop Lobby at 7pm (Eastern time, see timezone info here) on July 2nd. You just have to be a logged in member of Etsy to get into the workshop (registering for Etsy is free and easy).
Anyone who has an interest in blogging, social-networking, online video, etc is much welcome. We want this to be a lively discussion with folks sharing their experiences and newbies raising important questions from their point of view.
Please RSVP@etsy.com and say whether you’ll be coming in person or online via the Workshop. Here’s my post in the forums about the talk. See you soon!

Hi all,
As many of you know, we’ve been in the process of switching to a new credit card processor for several months now. Unfortunately, our processing account is still not ready to be used, as we are waiting on final authentication codes for live transactions.
Because of this, we are unable to run autocharges this month. We hope to have the capability to run them ready well in time for the next payment cycle, which will run from July 15th to July 27th.
In the meantime, we ask that you check your online Etsy statements at Your Etsy -> Your Etsy Bill, and if you wish, easily pay your bill manually there.
Before we run the autocharges next month, we will be sending out notification emails to all sellers informing them of the situation and the coming charge.
Again, we apologize if this has caused any inconvenience, and we will be updating you promptly when there are any changes.

Many were experiencing problems with the uploading of pictures in listings as per this thread. Things are resolved now, but you will have to re-upload your images.
MikeH says:
This problem should be resolved now. You will have to re-upload any images that you weren’t able to send before.
We hit the limit to the number of images we could store without a configuration change to our image software. The configuration has been changed, tested, and everything should be working now.
Sorry for the inconvenience.
Thanks,
Mike

No admin acknowledgment yet, but new bills say autocharging will happen in July. Technically, they still have today (6/27) to autocharge June bills…
Either way, we’ll let you know.
EDIT:
Doesn’t look like anything went through. No acknowledgment either way from admin. Another month, another bill with untrue statements.
EDIT: (by starrydesigns)
Please read this post for latest update on autocharge for June 2007.
EDIT: (by Serena) I removed the info about Etsy’s financial backers. We will re-post this in a different context.

According to several threads in the Bugs forum, the Treasury is b0rked and has been so for a few hours. No comment from admin yet - we’ll do our best to keep you updated.
EDIT:
From here:
Jared says:
I’ve fixed the bug in the Treasury that was preventing new lists from being created. The error was my own fault, the result of some updates I performed this afternoon.
The good news is that newly created lists will now be given up to an additional 24 hours of lifetime, determined randomly at the time of creation. This will help stagger expiration times. The affect of this change will be noticeable in about 48 hours.
Thank you for your patience and please enjoy your evening. I’m going back to bed.

Everyone, we’ve decided to require registration in order for users to comment. You may register at http://etsynews.com/wp-register.php.
Registration only requires a valid email and a username. That’s the same information already required for a comment. It’s that simple!
Before making this decision, we opened the topic to discussion in a post. Here are some answers to questions asked:
- There will never be registration fees.
- Registration is not required to read the site or the comments.
- Registered users will be no less anonymous than current users. For registration, users will only need to provide an email and a username … this is already required for every comment.
- Registration, as opposed to deleting comments, is not censorship.
- Since this site is separately hosted on my servers, any other WordPress logins you have will not apply.
Please see the original comment thread for full responses.
The primary reason we are implementing registration is because a few individuals were using this site to impersonate others. The editors of UEN can only catch this abuse when it is brought to our attention. We do not want anyone using our site to trash the reputations of other members of the Etsy community, especially if the abuse isn’t caught promptly. So, registration is for the protection of those who comment, not to encumber or censor them.
Other added benefits of registration include reduction in time spent moderating spam, a vast limiting of other abuses, some convenience for the user, the option to have a local gravatar (log in and click here), and a prevention of other problems in the future.
We have yet to hear of any complaints from a registered user, and to date we’ve had many voluntary registrations. Hopefully those who want to comment will find the process extremely simple. In my opinion, it’s a heck of a lot easier than actually writing a comment.
If you have any concerns about whether you’re already registered, what your username is, etc., please do not hesitate to contact me personally.

Read all about it here; if you’re having trouble as well, please post to that thread to let Admin know.

This appears to be happening when you edit a listing right after creating it. We’re writing a special catch for this case now…

We’re considering adding registration as a requirement for commenting. This is to help us keep everyone straight and limit abuse/spam.
Registration only requires a username and email address, and it’s both instant and painless. For users, registration would be more convenient because name/email/website information is stored for each post.
Please post your thoughts!
