Hi everyone! I am stepping down as an editor of this site as of today. My time commitments in real life have made it nearly impossible for me to keep up with the ins-and-outs of Etsy any longer. I’d like to thank the other UEN editors for their camaraderie, for engaging in some great discussions and for volunteering many hours to keeping this site afloat.
I’d like to thank Serena especially for creating and maintaining this site. I’ve always appreciated her objectivity and even-handedness and for graciously leaving the door open for me to return as an editor at a later date.
It’s been a great ride! Thanks to everyone and keep in touch, you know where to find me :)
Ciao for now.

UPDATE Dec 31 by JB.
The survey is now closed, thank you everyone for your participation, and have a safe and sparkly New Years Eve!
Reason for closing: We had upgraded to a pro polldaddy account for one month to get a bigger response limit, and we just downgraded back to a free account before the next billing cycle. I think everyone who wanted to respond had a chance to do so, the number of new responses had trailed off to zero the last few days anyway. ( real life and holidays might be the reason for that!)
But we did get lots of great data so thank you to everyone for the feedback!
————————————————
Hello Etsynews readers! This is the time of year when people like to look back at their accomplishments and their mistakes, take stock, and make plans for the coming year. The editors of UEN would like your feedback about how you use UEN. To help us organize the feedback we’ve created a little survey.
Please take the survey here.
Two notes:
1. There might be some small ads, I didn’t see any when I tested but we only have a free account at this survey-maker site, so I believe it is ad-supported.
2. Free accounts at this survey-maker site are limited to 100 responses per month. I am hoping if we reach that maximum, we will get 100 more on December 1.
Thanks for your participation!

Due to the large number of comments for a recent article, UEN has added page number links for comments. 10 comments show per page. Hopefully this will reduce scrolling and will load pages faster. (some people were getting incomplete page loads, with the bottom comments truncated)
If you don’t see an old comment, it’s probably just on the previous page.
We hope this helps!

Sorry for the slowness, everyone. There is another site hosted on the same server as UEN, (unrelated) which is undergoing a DoS attack. This is unrelated to UEN owners or content, but is affecting our speed. There isn’t much we do about it but the host is aware of it.
This may cause delay in posting, if your post times out or appears to not go through, it might still show up. I’ve seen a few duplicate posts today I think resulting from this happening.
Anyway, what I am ding is copy/pasting my comments to notepad before I submit, so that if it doesn’t show up I can repost it.
Sorry for the inconvenience!

Everyone, we’ve decided to require registration in order for users to comment. You may register at http://etsynews.com/wp-register.php.
Registration only requires a valid email and a username. That’s the same information already required for a comment. It’s that simple!
Before making this decision, we opened the topic to discussion in a post. Here are some answers to questions asked:
- There will never be registration fees.
- Registration is not required to read the site or the comments.
- Registered users will be no less anonymous than current users. For registration, users will only need to provide an email and a username … this is already required for every comment.
- Registration, as opposed to deleting comments, is not censorship.
- Since this site is separately hosted on my servers, any other WordPress logins you have will not apply.
Please see the original comment thread for full responses.
The primary reason we are implementing registration is because a few individuals were using this site to impersonate others. The editors of UEN can only catch this abuse when it is brought to our attention. We do not want anyone using our site to trash the reputations of other members of the Etsy community, especially if the abuse isn’t caught promptly. So, registration is for the protection of those who comment, not to encumber or censor them.
Other added benefits of registration include reduction in time spent moderating spam, a vast limiting of other abuses, some convenience for the user, the option to have a local gravatar (log in and click here), and a prevention of other problems in the future.
We have yet to hear of any complaints from a registered user, and to date we’ve had many voluntary registrations. Hopefully those who want to comment will find the process extremely simple. In my opinion, it’s a heck of a lot easier than actually writing a comment.
If you have any concerns about whether you’re already registered, what your username is, etc., please do not hesitate to contact me personally.

We’re considering adding registration as a requirement for commenting. This is to help us keep everyone straight and limit abuse/spam.
Registration only requires a username and email address, and it’s both instant and painless. For users, registration would be more convenient because name/email/website information is stored for each post.
Please post your thoughts!

UEN is moving has moved to Etsynews.com.
I’m in the process of transferring everything, but you may want to hold off commenting until you see a post at Etsynews.com saying that the move is complete.
Thanks!
Update: The transfer is complete. If you see etsynews.com in your address bar, you’re free to surf, comment, etc. Welcome to the new site!
If you have any problems accessing links on this site, you can manually change old links to new ones like this:
old: http://purplepapaya.net/etsy/1/firstpost/
new: http://etsynews.com/1/firstpost/
(just swap “purplepapaya.net/etsy” for “etsynews.com”)
We have changed links in old posts and comments, but links from external sites will be broken.

Welcome to Cindy of StarryDesigns, our latest editor. She’ll be watching for Etsy news during the wee hours of the morning from far away Singapore.
I will add her into the sidebar and editors’ bios section as soon as I have a chance.
Thanks for joining the team!
