Etsy Street Teams Pages Redesigned

In this thread, Etsy admin wonderamy announced,

Last night, we launched a new version of team.etsy.com.

It is not the long-awaited NEW Teams section - but it is an improvement on what was already there, and is a better organized solution while we wait for the expanded future Teams section. Sarawearsskirts and I are busily working on a bunch of guides and tools to help Teams promote themselves and their members’ shops this Holiday season, and the new design will accommodate those offerings.

Your Team profile pages have not changed much yet, aside from the Etsy header graphics being replaced (your team graphic is still there).

There is now an email signup on the front page of the Teams section. If you are on an Etsy Team, please sign up for a weekly email! We want to keep you in the loop with all of the Teams-related updates, tips, surprises and news for the season.

And….there is a letter from us to you about an exciting new Etsy project for Teams that is launching very soon. Click the links under “Etsy Teams and the Holidays” to get the breaking news.

Etsy dramatically changes forum muting policies

Earlier this week, several Etsy members were banned permanently, some without ever having been muted, and some without ever having been sent a warning.

This is a major change from the guidelines originally posted by Stella, reported by us here:

This is a very long thread. If you wish to read the statements by the 5 banned people but don’t have time to read the entire thread, here are the numbers of their posts.

    Etsy Blogs About Toy Safety

This is an excerpt from the brief Etsy Garden entry:

Toys for the little people should be safe. In light of the recent scandals about toy recalls from major corporations, we have safety on the mind, and we want to encourage toy-makers to test out their items and design them with sucking, pulling, tender babies in mind. Remember, kids will eat anything!  (emphasis in original blog entry)

It’s nice to know that Etsy has the safety of little ones in mind, but what the article fails to mention is that Etsy sellers have also recently been the subject of a baby item recall - namely, Swarovski-encrusted pacifiers. See here. It isn’t just the major corporations who need policing. There is at least one seller named in the recall who has failed to post any sort of recall notice in her Etsy shop - even though the law specifically requires it. And, more and more toxic crystal-decorated infant/baby/child items continue to be listed on Etsy.

The UEN covered the original recall issue here.

UPDATE August 30, 2007 by GreenMamba

There was an ongoing thread started by an Etsy seller who was concerned about the use of toxic Swarovski crystals in children’s products. The thread became a vehicle for information about the federal recall of Swarovski-encrusted pacifiers - sold by three Etsy sellers and two non-Etsy sellers. The thread was also used to request that Etsy require the seller(s) named in the recall to post the notices prominently in their Etsy shops,  a CPSC requirement. Instead, stellaloella locked the thread with these words:

This is a very serious issue indeed.

As a venue, Etsy is not qualified to determine the safety of products or impose federal laws or regulations pro-actively on sellers. We can and will uphold the law when we are notified by the appropriate agency, but it is not our place to independently make those determinations. In addition, each individual seller must be responsible for their own business practices, including product safety, as outlined in our Terms of Use.

This thread is being locked for calling out, as it has gotten much too detailed about specific sellers/shops on Etsy.

Duplicates on Showcase for Aug 25

There are some duplicates on today’s showcase. Looks like it is a result of the Showcase mess up talked about here. Here is Jared’s explanation for it:

    jared says:
The multiple items look like they’re all coming from the same two sellers. The good news is that it is consistent (you’ll see these duplicate images with each refresh, just their positions are randomized).

It appears that the day was probably sold incorrectly. We’ll investigate further and work with the affected sellers directly.

    Showcase Overbooked; Some Get Bumped

Etsy experienced technical difficulties yesterday that have resulted in more than 36 people being able to register for the showcase. The “overflow users” will  be removed from the showcase and issued a refund. See this thread for more details.

Edit by Lis If you reserved a showcase on one of the dates listed below, it’s possible that you have been “de-scheduled”. Info posted by RD in the same thread:

Okay, the following dates had overflow and had to have showcase slots removed and refunded:

    2007.08.16
    2007.08.17
    2007.08.18
    2007.08.19
    2007.08.22
    2007.08.23
    2007.09.01
    2007.09.07
    2007.09.14
    2007.09.15

If you signed up for a slot on one of those dates, there’s a chance you have been de-scheduled. Your Etsy -> Your Etsy Bill will show you if you are still signed up for a date or not.

    Poster Contest results are in!

See here for the 60 (yes, 60) winning entries and the 160 runners-up!

If one of your images appears in a winning poster, admin will be contacting you for permission to reproduce the photo for the poster.

And congrats to our very own Soap, one of the winning poster-makers!

Also be sure to check out the stats page on the poster entries for some interesting lists.

    Slowness caused by Showcase sales

    RevolvingDork says:
    Hey all,

At noon today we opened up showcase sales for the next month. Because of the number of people signing up for the showcase at the same time, it brought the site to a crawl and may have caused some pages to time out completely.

This should be cleared up within the hour as the spots are all taken.

We recognize that site stability is more important than showcase sales, so we are now making plans to move the showcase to its own database so this won’t happen again.

We apologize for any inconvenience this slowdown has caused.
Posted at 12:35 pm, August 15 2007 EST

They are moving Showcase to its own database. Chris read our minds!

If Showcase dates were not charged to your Etsy bill earlier, check again! It should be there now, as per Chris in this thread.

For people having other issues regarding Showcase (for example: charged for 2 spots on the same day), Chris has rectified issues through this thread. You may try posting in there to get his attention.
