Many people are facing issues with pictures once they have re-listed an item. This has resulted in missing pictures in listings. Haim has acknowledged the issue and is currently working on it.
Meanwhile, you can try “removing” the picture from the listing and uploading it again. It has worked for some.

Hi everyone. The engineers are looking into the image error issue that started happening yesterday. They’re working diligently to get it fixed up as quickly as possible.
We’ll give you an update as soon as we have more info, or have it fixed up.

I was just informed of something very sad and super important:
You will need to re-upload any of the images effected(sic) by this issue once it is resolved.

Good afternoon.
I’ve just finished fixing the problem. You should find most (if not all) of the images are back at this time. If you aren’t seeing them, please try holding the shift key and hitting the reload button on your browser. If they still don’t come up, you may have to re-upload them.
We apologize for the inconvenience.
Thank you.

Do you have watermarks on your pictures? If you want to be on the front page, think twice about the watermark or place it in a less prominent area of the picture.
To learn how to place watermark in a less prominent area, read about what HeyMichelle has to say in the 2nd paragraph of her forum post.
HeyMichelle says:
Hi there guys…
Just to clear up the watermark issue: there is no rule against watermarks on the front page. However, we do like to keep the front page looking clean, so items with watermarks that show on the front page do not usually make it to the front page.
So, what to do if you want to use a watermark? Upload a photo that is longer than the allotted size, and put the watermark at the top of the photo. The photo will be cropped in treasury and gallery thumbnails. Give it a test run by switching the view in your shop to “gallery view” (click “gallery”, which is right above “price” near the top of your shop). Voila! Now the watermark is still there, but hidden.
Oh, yes, and welcome to Etsy, NaturalHistorie! Oh, and about your question…if you do decide to use watermarks, you will want to make them as non-distracting as possible. If your main concern is people printing your work out, I have heard (don’t quote me on this- very “word on the streets”) that if you make the resolution 72dpi, then it will still look good on the computer but be useless in a printout. Maybe try experimenting with this?

Under the Selling FAQ,
Are watermarks acceptable on my Photos?
We’re not very fond of them but you’re welcome to use them.
Thank you, Ren, for the tip!

Here’s a quick update on some of the bigger bugs we’ve been fighting…
- The cookie/login issue
We’ve found a bug in how we generate random data that could possibly result in login “collisions”. It’s our theory that user A would login and get his random data token. Sometime thereafter user B would generate the exact same random data thus grabbing user A’s session. We’ve got a short term fix in the works that will highly decrease the chances of that happening. It’s our goal to have that fix pushed out early Wednesday AM EST. In addition we’re working on a larger long term fix to better handle cookies in general.
- 500 errors on the bill pages
Users with a large amount of unbilled charges or a large amount of charges under a single bill would generate “500 errors” when loading pages. We’ve got a fix in the works to paginate out these pages which should resolve the issue.
- Images not loading/hanging
This one is a horrible ghost in the machine. The crazy randomness of this issue along with an inability to recreate on demand is making this one incredibly difficult to track down. We’ve got people looking over every single part of our system to try and find where this gremlin lives. I don’t have any updates for you as of yet, but it’s something we’re all working on.

Some people have mentioned that they are having problems seeing images on the site. We are investigating what the cause of this issue could be, but we have not yet been able to reproduce it or find any explaination as to why it is occuring.
It is not related to load, as the images are loading quickly for most users and for all of us admins.
We’ll post more news about it as we figure it out — when we do, it’s likely we’ll ask for some information from those of you that are experiencing the issue.
Thanks!

Hi all,
There have been some concerns about image quality on the site. Images that have previously looked okay on Etsy look grainier when uploaded now. Fortunately, there’s an easy way to get better quality for your images.
To get the best image quality for your listings, you should upload your images as .jpeg — it’s the only file format suitable for photographs, and .gif and .png files will end up looking substantially worse after they are processed.
There are other unrelated issues with cropping that we’re looking into now, which some folks may also be having problems with.
If you are uploading jpegs and are still seeing quality issues, let us know here!

Many were experiencing problems with the uploading of pictures in listings as per this thread. Things are resolved now, but you will have to re-upload your images.
MikeH says:
This problem should be resolved now. You will have to re-upload any images that you weren’t able to send before.
We hit the limit to the number of images we could store without a configuration change to our image software. The configuration has been changed, tested, and everything should be working now.
Sorry for the inconvenience.
Thanks,
Mike

Occasionally, I’ve noticed a missing avatar or two in the fora. I’ve always assumed the user removed his/her avatar for whatever reason. Yesterday, I finally put it together - “blank avatars” seem to correspond to users being muted on the fora which meshes with my recollection of other avs that have gone blank recently. These same users’ avatars still are showing in their profiles and/or stores at the same time, just missing in the fora threads.

It looks like there are some issues with cropping on avatars and banners that are sized perfectly and include a border. I’ve run a few tests and have seen that the bottom and the right side of an appropriately sized avatar / banner will be cut by one pixel.
We’re working on the fix for this now — I’ll post again when it’s been rectified so you can test it out yourselves.

Mike and I have rectified the cropping issue with avatars and banners — if you upload the proper size now, you should see the whole image unclipped.
Try it out!

There have been some reports of people having problems viewing some images on the site. According to all of our tests, images are working properly, and should be visible by everyone.
It is possible, however, that our changes to the image URLs earlier this week have confused some browsers and/or web accelerators. They store the old URL, and ignore the old URL, and the image comes up as broken.
In most cases, restarting your computer is enough to clean this cache out. If the images are still not viewable after a restart, clear out your browser’s cache manually. To do this, follow the appropriate directions for your browser of choice here: http://www.java.com/en/download/help/webcache.xml
This should have you seeing all the beautiful Etsy images again in no time. :D

We’ve just cut over to a new image system!
This one will let us grow much larger and hopefully be more stable than the one we were using before. We’ve done our best to make sure this change was transparent all of you, but we’re on the lookout for anything image-related that might be acting up now that the new system is in place.
Let us know here if you have any new issues with viewing or uploading images that have appeared as of the time of this post — if there are any problems, we’ll do our best to rectify them right away.
