Teams Workshop Tonight

From the Etsy Team page:

Trying to decide whether or not to join a street team?
Currently a member of a couple teams?
Are you one of our dynamic, fearless street team leaders right now?
Kind of confused about what a street team is?

Excellent! Please join us in the [deleted text] Workshops on Wednesday, July 11 at 10pm EDT. We’ll address questions, share tips from successful street teams, and brainstorm new ideas on what we can all do to make this program the best it can be! Check in on this forum thread for updates and current information on the round table chats. (We moved it from the Chat Room to the Workshop so that more people can attend. Thanks!)

From the Blog - Etsy Workshop talk: Global Microbrand

If this has already been posted, I’ll remove.

NB: I didn’t replicate the links in the post found in the blog below - please go to the original blog entry to see those links/linked pages

EDIT: here’s Vanessa’s matching thread.

The Global Microbrand workshop.

Many entrepreneurs want to grow their businesses but at the same time, they want to remain in control of what they produce. At Etsy, we would like to help more independent artists make a living from what they make. We’ve discussed trying to find an alternative model to “business-as-usual.” This Monday July 2nd, we’ll be opening our doors at the Labs and to the online Workshop to further discuss how to remain independent while creating a sustainable business. Part of this entails a new approach to marketing and communications.

On Monday July 2nd at 7pm, we’ll be hosting an informal talk led by Englishman Antonio Gould: The Global Microbrand: Using the Web to Stay Small whilst Selling all over the World. Antonio will address many of the issues Etsy sellers face as they try to make a name for themselves. He has worked as a new media consultant in Europe and approached Etsy, seeing it as an interesting manifestation of many of his key points.

If you are NYC-area based, please join us in person for this free talk. As many of our members can’t be there face-to-face, we’ll be using the Workshop to open up the discussion to everyone. Please wait for the virtual doors to be unlocked in the Workshop Lobby at 7pm (Eastern time, see timezone info here) on July 2nd. You just have to be a logged in member of Etsy to get into the workshop (registering for Etsy is free and easy).

Anyone who has an interest in blogging, social-networking, online video, etc is much welcome. We want this to be a lively discussion with folks sharing their experiences and newbies raising important questions from their point of view.

Please RSVP@etsy.com and say whether you’ll be coming in person or online via the Workshop. Here’s my post in the forums about the talk. See you soon!

Confused About Your Online vs. Email Bills? You’re Not The Only One.

This issue is actually too complicated for me to summarize here. It has to do with emails differing from online bills and actual charges. Go, read. :)

why is etsy emailing incorrect bills?

RD does respond in a few places.

EDIT:

Here he agrees that the billing system is confusing:

RevolvingDork says:
We are working on a revision of the billing system to make it easier to understand, as we know that this can be confusing behavior. In the meantime, refunds will cause your bills to be regenerated with all outstanding charges every time they are issued.

And to a response about when changes might be expected…

Why do some emails only cover a few days worth of billing?

RevolvingDork says:
soap, the emails are sent out according to the currently available account information. If your charge information changes between one bill and the next, the old email cannot be updated, as it was already sent. You are, however, sent a notification email every time you receive a refund, which alerts you that your bill has been changed and suggests that you check your live bill.

As I said before, we are working on refining the system and are aware that this behavior is not ideal.

There’s a lot of important discussion in that thread. I’ve given some highlights, but it’s very important that you go and read it.

Also, don’t forget that Rokali/Rob (Etsy President) recently asked for input on the billing page. Now seems like a good time to add your thoughts…

The new deadline is July 16, with the winner being announced on the 19th.

Original contest info here.

Showcase on Sale Fri April 13, Noon EDT

Read the blog post here.

UPDATE: Chris explains “Showcase Magic“:

RevolvingDork says:
The super-slowness ( worse than regular slowness ) is being caused by the showcase registration rush, which started at noon EST.

It should be out of our systems in a few minutes — it’s almost sold out.

ABC News to Film at Etsy Labs on Thursday - Want to Join in the Fun?

ABC news apparently will be at Etsy Labs Thursday and asked for a list of names of people who will attend. The deadline for submitting names passed, but you might want to inquire if you would like to attend. Maybe admin will give more than one hour’s notice for the next appearance opportunity.

UPDATE thanks to the comment left by Mary (etsy admin) below -

Anyone is welcome to come who wants to as long as you can be at the labs by 9:45am. I posted the thread just 10 minutes after ABC called Matt to set it up. You all had the same notice that I did and I thought it would be nice to spread the word and invite you all for the opportunity!! Feel free to email me at mary@etsy.com if you’d like to be included!

Thanks again,

Mary

Book Club Today 7 p.m. EDT with Author Participating

The second Etsy Book Club discussion will be held today with the author present to answer any questions.

Rokali says:

At 7pm EST we’re talking about The Perfect Store by Adam Cohen.

As a treat, Adam himself will be there to answer questions, so please show up with a curious mind.

Please note that he’s the author of the book, and *not* an eBay employee.

The link to get in is:

The Perfect Store is a corporate biography of eBay by Adam Cohen.

This fascinating history of eBay offers many lessons to Etsy and its community. We truly hope you will join us in the Workshop then.

The next etsy book club selection is Ben & Jerry’s Double Dip: How to Run a Values Led Business and Make Money Too by Ben Cohen And Jerry Greenfield.
