Three talented Etsy designers have been selected to created new Etsy-branded designs to be used in new promo merchandise, and admin is seeking your vote to choose the winning design. Voting is open until Sunday, February 10th. You can also comment in the accompanying forum thread here.
The Etsy Labs has noticed your requests for a more diverse style of promo merchandise and have created this Design Face-Off with the intentions to involve you, our beloved Etsy community in the design process of our new line of Etsy goodies.
The Etsy Admin have hand-selected three designers that are already doing an awesome job on the site. We asked them to create up to three new Etsy branded designs, and now it’s up to you to decide whose Etsy Design will reign supreme! Just cast your vote for your favorite new Etsy Logo Design in the comments below.
The voting will be open until Sunday, February 10, and the design selected by the community’s vote will be screenprinted at the Labs and featured in an exclusive limited edition run of merchandise for sale in the official Etsy merch shop.
Congratulations to timberps, seasprayblue, and sheridesthelion!

In this thread, jared says:
The Etsy Virtual Labs is an experimental multi-user space where Etsians can go to interact with Etsy admin, communicate in real time, and hold online events. The physical layout is a great approximation of the actual Etsy Labs office in Brooklyn, New York.

The link above points to the Virtual Labs lobby. The lobby is basically a map of the rooms currently active.
There are rooms for marketing, rooms for support, a place where engineers might be sighted, our exceptional lawyer’s office, sewing photography & explosives rooms, and even a tree house to just hang out.
It’s still being built. Nothing as yet is being staffed.
I’m posting this to ask for your help testing and for your suggestions for improvement! Please post any and all critiques, comments and suggestions specific to this new feature. We’ll try to build them in!
This new feature is similar to our Workshops ( http://www.etsy.com/workshop_main.php ) and Chat rooms ( http://www.etsy.com/chat_main.php ). It may eventually subsume these two features to keep things simple.

Etsy will be choosing an artist each month to create press kits/gift packs. Extras will be sold in the Etsylabs shop. From this blog post:
Every month, we commission an Etsy seller to design custom kits. We send these kits out as Etsy handmade press packs, in promos, and as gifties for Etsy contest winners and the like. We make everything in limited edition here at the Labs and at the artist’s studio.
[snip]
We choose the Artist-of-the-Month based on what we see as their clear, unique style and ability to make a high quality product. The seller may be new to Etsy or relatively seasoned. We are just starting with this program, but we’re hoping to represent the many different types of art and craft on Etsy. So far, the response has been great.

ABC news apparently will be at Etsy Labs Thursday and asked for a list of names of people who will attend. The deadline for submitting names passed, but you might want to inquire if you would like to attend. Maybe admin will give more than one hour’s notice for the next appearance opportunity.
UPDATE thanks to the comment left by Mary (etsy admin) below -
Anyone is welcome to come who wants to as long as you can be at the labs by 9:45am. I posted the thread just 10 minutes after ABC called Matt to set it up. You all had the same notice that I did and I thought it would be nice to spread the word and invite you all for the opportunity!! Feel free to email me at mary@etsy.com if you’d like to be included!
Thanks again,
Mary

Etsy unveiled the Workshop, virtual meeting rooms where you may chat with, see and hear your fellow Etsyans. We had an official peek at this new feature with StaceyRebecca’s puppet show. More recently, Anda of Etsy Labs conducted a “how to” class in the Workshop: Click here to view Anda’s how-to class. Click here to read more about what went on behind the scene to broadcast that class.
