Bills Now Due on the 15th NOT the 27th

Sorry for the independent post for something so minor. I normally would’ve just updated our existing post about the new billing system but I don’t want this to take anyone by surprise.

Under Etsy’s old billing system, the due date on your existing closed bill was Sept. 27. That bill (those bills) are now due on September 15th.

If you had bills prior to Sept, those have been back-dated to show they were due (and now past due) on the 15th of each respective month. e.g. Aug will show Aug 15 as the due date, July will show July 15 as the due date, etc., even though the bills previously all shojwed Sept 27 as the due date.

International characters cause payment problems

In this post, RD explains that Etsy’s new credit card gateway does not accept names or addresses with international characters. Sellers who are having trouble paying their Etsy bills should try removing any international letters or symbols from their credit card info.

The new billing system is live!

Hot news!!! You can now view your updated bills and pay them off! Read all about it here.

RevolvingDork says:
The new billing system is now online!

You can now check out your monthly statements and make payments towards your balance due. As before, you can find your bill at Your Etsy -> Your Etsy Bill.

Here are some of the enhancements you’ll find in the new system:

- Monthly statements contain *only* the activity that happened during the given month
- Clear, easy-to-read account summary
- Ability to make partial payments towards your total balance
- Downloadable .CSV files of your monthly statements

We’ve tested the new system extensively, but as with all new things, we’ll be keeping a close eye on it to make sure everything is going smoothly.

Please note that overdue penalties will not be issued until January 2008. We want to give everyone ample time to pay off their balances.

Here are a few questions you might have after perusing your bill:

Q. My bills don’t match up to what they said before! Why are the opening and closing balances so strange?
A. The old bills have been completely reorganized into monthly statements. These statements will only show activity a single given month, so payments and charges only show up in the month you actually made them. Expect this to clear out in future months as you pay off your bill on time!
Q. You said that charges from other months wouldn’t appear, but I see some at the end of my statement!
A. The bills are based on the UTC time zone, and the pages are displayed in the EDT time zone. Because of this, charges that were made in the last 4 hours of the last day of the month will appear to be based in the following day. This is done to ensure data consistency throughout the rest of our system.

Q. Where can I download CSV files of my statements?
A. Click on any month to open its statement page. At the very bottom of the page, there is a link to its CSV file.

Q. What is a CSV file?
A. A CSV file is a standard spreadsheet format. It can be opened in any spreadsheeting application to easily sort the details of any given month.

Q. Can I pay using PayPal?
A. We are investigating the possibility of accepting PayPal payments for Etsy bills, but for now the only way to pay your due balance will be with your credit card on file.

New Billing System: Update

The new billing system, which was supposed to be launched “before the end of the business week”, is delayed. At 5:19 AM Saturday morning, (well after the end of the business week), RevolvingDork posted this update:

Hi all,

It’s early Saturday morning and we’re still in the process of deploying the new and improved billing system. It’s a lot of complex work we’re trying to overcome to make the billing process be simpler for you.

It’s difficult to accurately pin down an exact time that we’ll be done at this point, but we are extremely close. There’s one more big conversion query to run through, followed by another round of tests — after that, it will be ready. The conversion query is what’s taking so much time, as it’s processing millions of charges and priming them for the new system. We’ll be working day and night through the weekend to get the system online as quickly as possible.

As soon as the system is tested and ready, we’ll deploy it so that you can check out your new statements and pay off your due balances. We’ll then email every Etsy seller their august statement along with useful information about the new system.

To recap, here are the enhancements you can expect:

- Monthly statements contain *only* the activity that happened during said month

- Clear, easy-to-read account summary

- Ability to make partial payments towards your total balance

- Downloadable .CSV files of your monthly statements

We are investigating the possibility of accepting PayPal payments for Etsy bills, but for now the only way to pay your due balance will be with your credit card on file.

We recognize that you’re all anxious to get your bills straightened out — believe me when I say that we’re even *more* anxious than you are. You will have ample time to pay off your balances, as we will not be issuing overdue penalties until January 1st, 2008.

Stay tuned to The Storque for updates as they happen!

Etsy Bills & Late Fees

According to Chris (Etsy co-founder),

lateness penalties will not be initiated for at least 2 months after the [new billing] system is unveiled.

.

Yay! (editorial comment there)

The New Billing System - Pay ‘em Manually, Please

Chris says:

Hi all!

We’ve completed the new billing system and we’re just about ready to launch it.

We originally hoped to get it launched by today, but we decided to take a little extra time to triple-check everything and make sure it’s as rock solid as possible. It will be launched before the end of the business week. We’re sorry for the delay, but this is something we want to make sure we get right.

Once we’re all set, we’ll be emailing the august statement out, along with information about the new system.

When the new system is up, you’ll be able to pay off your bill quickly and easily. Here are some of the enhancements you’ll be seeing this weekend:

- Monthly statements contain *only* the activity that happened during said month

- Clear, easy-to-read account summary

- Ability to make partial payments towards your total balance

- Downloadable .CSV files of your monthly statements

Please note that Etsy bills will no longer be auto-charged. We are working on implementing an opt-in auto-charge system, which we’ll debut after we’re sure the new billing system is rock-solid. This information will be provided in the email that will be sent containing your august statements.

Thank you for your patience as we’ve been working on this project — we hope these changes will make things a lot easier for everyone!

More on Billing Changes

I thought this was a nice, clear statement:

RevolvingDork says:
Every past month is being reorganized into a “statement”, which contains only the activity that occured during that month. The August statment will include all activity from august 1st - august 31st.

The new system, however, will allow you to pay off fees on months that have not yet closed, so you won’t have to wait for the statements to be finished to pay.

The New Billing System is Complete, Releasing Soon

RevolvingDork says:

Hi all!

We’ve completed the new billing system and we’re just about ready to launch it.

Right now we’re running conversion scripts on the existing billing information to ensure a smooth transfer to the new sytem. Once that’s done, we’ll be generating statements all the way up to august and emailing the august statement out, along with information about the new system.

Once the conversion is complete, you’ll be able to pay off your bill quickly and easily.

Thank you for your patience as we’ve been working on this project — we hope these changes will make things a lot easier for everyone!

update:
RD has answered the question (sort of) about whether manual payment is mandatory until Etsy develops the new autocharge system.

RevolvingDork says:
If you have an amount due, you should pay manually when the option is opened up. Waiting for the opt-in autocharge to be built should not be considered if you have an outstanding balance.
