[quote]For the longer term, I have mobilized the Engineering team inside Etsy, and I have connected the team here to engineers working on search at some very large and successful sites that you probably know, use and love.

    Interesting.

All I can say is that it took a very long time to read, doesn’t address the most urgent seller needs, and might be more appropriate for a business that puts out the Storque (which requires no writing skills at all) and just about nothing else. Words, and words, and well, a bit of ego-stroking. Ah, another BIG personality at Etsy, just what sellers need!

Any retail ecommerce business would not publish novellas because they would be most concerned with providing a professional BUSINESS platform for selling and buying. They’d be working behind the scenes doing that, not asserting their personalities all over the place.

While Etsy has been all about building these over-reaching personalities, myths, Etsy-centered trends, and a self-congratulatory culture that is about Etsy the employees and not Etsy THE SELLERS.

It’s shameful that the last thought on Etsy’s mind is the sellers.

Oh, and to make sure we idiot sellers get the Etsy Message, other employees are spending a lot of time directing sellers to read Chad’s article WHICH MEANS THEY ARE ALL REPEATING THEMSELVES AND EACH OTHER. They have nothing better to do????????????????? Repeat???????? what someone just wrote in 100 paragraphs? This needed repeating???????

    Actions speak louder than words.

Etsy has too many words and not enough action. Etsy is all about words. I want to see some action. .

There sounds like there might be a lot of changes coming down the ol’ chute. I’d love to know which companies he is talking about :)

    Don’t I still have a $5 down?

He worked for yahoo before, so I am guessing yahoo search is one of the “sites we know and use and love.”

I like what he had to say. It was honest and not sugar-coated. I think he is inheriting a mess of undocumented, badly written code and it’s going to take him a while to mop things up, or more likely rewrite it from scratch. I can just imagine his horror when he started poking around under the hood. Poor guy!

I wondered more about the plural. Do Yahoo and Flickr have separate tech teams?

Yeah, I too felt sorry for the guy just reading the underlying (or not so underlying in places) message.
