The Back to School Decorating Front Page Showcase went on sale Friday, August 22nd, 2008 at 12 pm EDT.
Go to the Showcase Gateway to purchase a spot.
This showcase goes live on Tuesday, August 26, 2008 at 12 am (midnight) EDT and will run until 11:59 PM EDT on September 7, 2008.
The showcase costs $15 for 1 day.
In order to keep the Showcase on point thematically, the tool will only pull in items placed in the following categories: Art (e.g., top-level tag being “art”), Books and Zines, Candles, Ceramics and Pottery, Furniture, Geekery, Housewares, Plants and Edibles and Quilts.
note: Sorry I did not post this before the showcase went on sale, but the Storque article only came out one day before the showcase went on sale. There are still plenty of spots left though.

If this is intended to decorate dorm rooms, I am not sure candles should be included. Dorms have banned candles for a long time.

Yeah but only a few of the admin went to college so they wouldn’t know that :p

what is this great romance with going back to school? as a mum it just means frantically pulling together supplies during an extremely disorganised time of the year. as a college/university student it means trying to stretch that budget out and live independently.
i’m sure the back to school stuff is only fascinating to those who have never been to college or maybe mums with kids going into kindergarten (and as one what i’m really looking for is psychoanalysis and chocolate after this summer!)

And how long have kids in the US been back in school now?

locally here they start today and tomorrow, in the midwest my sis has been back to school for over a week now, colleges are moving in this week and start next week.

hmmm, a tad bit late don’t ya think. And for $15.00 I could list (or relist) 75 items. My return sales would be better served by listing the 75 items I think.

do nipple tassels get tagged as art or housewares?

Oh, I think they’re probably accessories, don’t you? That’s a travesty. I couldn’t say so there but I seriously doubt that that seller didn’t know that she was cheating the system when she used those in that showcase. I hope it was worth it, if there IS an afterlife she’ll be paying a lot more than $15 for that.

Enough with the themed showcases. Really. Enough lazy make-work. Etsy cannot spend the time or money on creating decent promotion sections on the site so they come up with THEMES. And exclude more stores than ever. And then they get lazy and forget to check the spots to see if they fit their very own themes.
So, what’s the point?
Their friends suggested the idea? They got away with not working too hard again?
Lame, uninteresting, not so creative marketing.
But, if it means Etsy does little work, spends less money, then they beat a so-so idea to death.
