Hi Everyone,

Thank you so much for your patience! We have been meeting with PayPal to find out why certain customers are getting PayPal errors at checkout in particular Etsy Seller Shops. At this time, PayPal has decided to escalate our case to a priority. This means that PayPal is dedicated to pin-pointing the problem as soon as possible for all of us. Etsy should be updated in the next 48 hours with news.

We thank Bluewaterstudio for helping Etsy and PayPal diagnose the problem, despite a super busy business schedule. We really appreciate this.

If anyone else wants to help, or report their experience, please email me at support [!at] etsy.com.

Here is information that might help PayPal figure out the problem:

- Your PP email address (PayPal username)
- Are you the buyer or the seller?
- If you are the seller, what are the usernames of the customers who had trouble?
- Describe the error message PayPal gives you
- A screen shot of the error message on PayPal

Many thanks!!!

Emily

I bet that paypal added some new servers or API codes or something, and Etsy just hasn’t updated the allowed list on their end. The two websites have to “communicate” with eachother in a secure way, in both directions.
Etsy-to-paypal, to get to the right recipient
paypal-to-etsy, to get the paid box marked checked
To keep these communications secure in both directions, each site has a sort of password to talk to the other site. (overly simplified)
When paypal adds new servers they add new access permission codes but the other site (etsy) has to manually allow those new servers to communicate with etsy in the same secure way the old servers did.
It’s sort of like having caller ID on your phone and you only accept calls from a specified list of numbers. Then your friend gets a new number and can’t get through to you. You just need to add their new number to your allowed list.

Anyway that is my guess, if it is the case then it shouldn’t be too hard to fix.
