New: Sort Items Into Sections During Listing Process

Fromt this Storque article:

Dear Sellers,

You asked for it, and now it’s here!  We’ve just integrated the step of placing an item in your shop sections into the listing process.  No more annoying extra step after you are finished, and no more forgetting once an item is listed.

Here’s a screen shot of what it looks like during step 3 of the listing process:

If you still have items that are not listed in sections, you can manually add and edit them the exact same way as before by clicking on the “sections” link in Your Etsy.   Now would be the perfect time to list a brand spankin’ new item to test out this great new feature!  There have been several related requests that items be allowed in more than one shop section at a time.  This is a feature we are still researching, but is not on the list of priorities at this time.

Again, thanks so much for all of your continued feedback and suggestions! We appreciate it. Here’s an article with some ways to use your shop sections.

I knew they had to be tinkering with the site when all the problems with flash applications and pictures started this past weekend. It would have been so much easier on everybody if they’d told us they were going to tinker, they didn’t have to say what tinkering, just tinkering. I kept hoping for sales that didn’t come, and much of that may have been due to this, which is great, I just wish I’d had advance warning so I could have directed my energies elsewhere.

oh thank goodness - what an obvious addition to the listing process

now we need user-directed tags for adding items automatically to the relevant gift guide (which would upload randomly and automatically during screen refreshes) to free up admin time for other ecommerce work

the slow march to streamlining applications has begun?

Yes, maybe, but it doesn’t say much for the idea of improved communication from Etsy’s side.

It’s 20 months later than it should have been (why, oh why wasn’t it built this way from the start!?), but I’m glad it’s there. It’s been one of my big functionality gripes. Maybe next the featured items won’t require 25 extra and entirely useless clicks to rearrange! *faints in anticipation*

Oh Simone, yes, that is a pain, but if I had my magic wand working I’d wave it over the fact that I can’t search inside my own shop. It’s like trying to run a B&M when the lights are out and the store room AND office are in dark rooms. Sheesh.

I am really happy that this is available now, but that Storque announcement has an awful lot of back-slapping in it for the size of the change and the length of time over which it’s been requested.

I’m hoping to be able to search my own sold items by Christmas ^_^

A lovely addition, or change, or improvement, small as it is.
And I was convinced that Etsy was spending all its time on giving origami classes, writing tween-like articles by the gross, and all the other activities that have little to do with ecommerce!
Let’s say, if Etsy shared this new improvement, it would be buried under hundreds of articles that are aimed at an invisible audience. No on would see it.

Okay, I have to retract my previous happiness over this. Since I heard about it I simply didn’t notice it when relisting sold items and kept wondering what I was missing. So I flicked back through the listing pages and found it.

There’s an extra click involved to add your relisted item to a section using the listing pages compared to the old and deeply inefficient way of doing it. Plus it still relies entirely upon you remembering to do it.

I’m sure it’s an improvement when listing new items, but for most sellers, relisting is what they do a lot more of and not only is this not an improvement in that situation, it’s a step backwards instead.
