Etsy replaces “brick wall” for deleted accounts

Etsy has gotten rid of the old “brick wall” graphic that you used to see when trying to access deleted shops or accounts that never existed. The new error page has links to continue shopping. This improves the navigability of the site and is much more buyer-friendly than the old brick wall, which had no navigation links.

I like this SO MUCH BETTER. That brick wall felt like a slap in the face, like “you messed up, now go away”.
My only wish is that after the text saying
    “Uh oh!
    This user does not exist.”
It should also say “please check your spelling or use the seller search” and then have a link to that, and then have the rest of the continue shopping links.
because if someone just makes a typo like eclispe.etsy.com they will get that error.

Very good point! There should be something to encourage people to look further for that seller.

I’m so glad the old “Zelda” screen has been retired. This is a great improvement, but JB’s ideas would make it even better.

I ran into this yesterday and think it’s a nice improvement.

    I just got this one:
    http://www.etsy.com/error.php?error_id=12&s=1
“Sorry, the user you are looking for no longer has an active account. Click here to visit our Community home page.” (with a link to the Community page)

So out of curiosity I went through all the numbers - changing the id # from 12 to various numbers.
1 = “Sorry, you need to specify a listing.”
2 = “You don’t have permission to change or remove this information.”
3 = “The values sent via the URL were not formatted properly. Did you type something into the address bar?”
4 = “No user ID was sent.”
5 = “You have tried to view a conversation you do not belong to.”
6 = “You cannot buy your own listings.”
7 = “You have tried to place a listing into your cart that no longer exists.”
8 = “The listing you have tried to access does not exist.”
9 = “You are not involved in this feedback.”
10 = “You have not selected any listings to renew. You must check at least one to renew.”
11 = “You are attempting to view a bill that does no [sic] belong to you.”
13 = “No bill ID was sent.”
14 = “You are trying to view a receipt that does not belong to you.”
15 = “Your item is already active. You can view it here. To see all of your active listings, go back to your shop.”
16 = “Sorry, this account needs to be activated. If this is you, please check your email account for an activation email. If you think your account should be active, please email support@etsy.com.”
17 = “You are trying to edit a listing that is no longer in edit mode. Did you press the back button on your browser to get to this page?”
18 = “Congraturations! You’ve diskovered un unkonwn errir!”

I was pleased to see that there were specific error screens for so many variable situations…. until I hit the last one. How professional.

I didn’t check if there were subscreen alternates like the one for the user ID.

Oh, and yeah maybe someone should tell them about the typo in #11. Or maybe they’ll read about it here. :-)

Perhaps it wasn’t a typo, Deja Vu? Maybe they were being funny?
