In this Etsy Bugs thread YadaYadaYada asks, “Why is my private Alchemy shop announcement now my Message from the Seller?”
My private Alchemy shop announcement, saying that I do not accept private Alchemy requests, is now my Message from the Seller on a public Alchemy bid that I won.
It looks unprofessional for my Message to Buyers on this Alchemy bid to say “Thanks for your interest in my shop, but I’m not accepting private Alchemy requests…”

(Emphasis added here.)
In a nutshell:
RevolvingDork says:
This is actually done purposely — on alchemy transactions, your alchemy announcement becomes your announcement to buyers. :]

Nope, not a bug - just another Etsy feature that is confusing and contradictory by design.
How is that supposed to be helpful?

How come we weren’t advised of this in the first place? Obviously the wording for one is completely different to the wording for another. How come Etsy is so obtuse and stupid?
duh

If it’s on purpose then it is even more stupid than if it was a bug. Why would anyone design it this way? The message to buyers should be the same as your normal store message to buyers. The private alchemy announcement is intended for people who have NOT YET bought anything, so obviously it would have different information. This seems like it was designed by someone who has never bought or sold anything on Etsy and has no clue how to process works.

Inflexible, very poorly thought through, confusing to end users, etc. etc.. More of business as usual, sadly.

ugh
I am out of words for the crap they pull

This is why I won’t touch Alchemy with a 10′ pole. I’ll do custom orders, and have done quite a few, but Alchemy? Not a chance. The entire process, from start to finish, is convoluted, misleading and messy. No, thank you.

Alchemy is a mess… what an awful, awful design.
