This afternoon, Etsy admin RevolvingDork announced (in this thread) a significant Etsy milestone:
RevolvingDork says:
Today, at 10:27am EDT, Etsy had its 1,000,000th user complete their registration. Etsy is now a community more than a million strong!
It’s just a big round number, but it feels like a pretty huge milestone to us. Thanks to everyone in the community for helping us grow so quickly!
Here’s to the next million! ;D

WooHoo!
Edit by quirke 06-14-08:
In this Storque article, admin clarifies that the “one million” members actually refers to accounts, rather than individual people.
*(That number includes multiple accounts from one member as well as accounts that may have been closed. In other words, members have gone completely through the registration process 1 million times.)

I wonder who that millionth person is? Can we tell by user ID numbers? I think they should get a prize of some sort. Like $100 in etsybucks to spend at any shop. (preferably mine)
I gave a prize to my 100th customer on Etsy.

Can someone at the company explain in more detail what it means by this number? Please publish stats - and it is acknowledged that a private company can keep it private, but the numbers that Etsy leaks out are completely without reference or context. What the heck does 1 million users mean?

1 million registered accounts.
1 million unique email addresses in their database.
Does not mean 1 million unique humans, does not mean 1 million active users.

Inquiring minds want to know . . .

The Storque article I linked to in the edit I just added to the article says who the “millionth” member was and also that the “million” refers to accounts, not individuals.

This kind of statistic is meaningless PR — just what the Stroque specializes in.
