A sad goodbye to EtsyTools

It is with great sadness that UEN must report on the impending closure of EtsyTools.

We will let Interrobang’s closing post speak for itself:

Goodbye and Good Luck
Mar 19, 2008interrobang
It is with a heavy heart that I announce today that Etsytools will be closing in two weeks time. It’s something we’ve been talking about for a little while now, but today the camel’s back was finally broken.

I will never understand why so many people think the world owes them. I get dozens of emails every day from people who think I could do better, and I should do better because they say so. I should be more professional, I should respond quicker, I should offer more features, less features, better features. I should pay hundreds of dollars for a server that is lightening fast so you don’t have to wait 10 seconds for the charts to load. I’ve been called every name under the sun, I’ve been threatened with legal action, and today I received a death threat. A fucking death threat!

I recognise that for every jealous idiot there are a dozen wonderful etsians out there, but I just don’t care anymore. I used to love the community but it has changed so much lately I don’t even recognise it. I don’t have any faith in Etsy anymore, and I’m tired of hacking away at this website just to be humiliated and mocked on the forums. There are people who will be jumping for joy to see this website close, and I’m glad to finally have satisfied the fuckwits. Leave me alone now.

Anyone who purchased advertising in the past week or so will be refunded. Everyone who purchased before that should use their impressions before we close the site on March 31st, or contact me and we’ll sort something out.

Thankyou to everyone who has offered their support and encouragement over the past 8 months. I’m sorry to those who are disappointed, but there’s just so much more to life than Etsy. If anyone wants me, I’ll be at St Kilda Beach.

Juln’s Heart-o-matic will be returning to its original home at majaba.org

We at UEN have enjoyed our association with EtsyTools and as sellers and buyers we appreciate all of the time, effort and expense they have put into providing the Etsy community with free and useful tools. We wish Interrobang and Vertis the best of luck in the future.

I am SO sorry to read of this. It’s absolutely mind-boggling that people would criticise the hardwork and ingenuity of others from which they benefit for free.

Oh, no. That is horrible. I *really* enjoyed EtsyTools, and appreciated and supported all of the hard work you put in. But yes, there is life beyond Etsy! Enjoy the beach :-)

I think listings will always outnumber sales, or else every shop would be empty! (and unfortunately not every item is sellable)
But it’s a good goal to narrow the gap between listings and sales.

Thanks JB, I take note of your mention of bad feed means bad stats. Tools did give some stats, and I always knew they were not reliable. However, if new listings do consistently outweigh actual sales, then I would expect that Etsy would not share stats that contain that kind of info. There is other info that will never be shared with sellers. That would mean loss of total control, and then they’d have to come up with 20 more rules to get it back.
