In this forum thread, Etsy admin RevolvingDork announces some much-needed changes to the last checkout page.

Based on the community’s feedback and suggestions, we have been able to make several tweeks to the final checkout page (aka page 4) during the payment process!
The changes break down like this:
*The biggest change you will notice is the big green button that says “pay with paypal” rather than the former text link.
*We changed the text from “total for this order” to “total for this seller.”
*We changed the text from “Please send all payments now. Remember you have to pay each seller individually” to “Pay each seller individually. Each order is not complete until you pay.”
*We changed the credit-card-through-paypal help button to say: “Use paypal for credit cards. Need paypal help?”
*Changed the text from “view full receipt” to “invoice;” this lets the buyer know that they aren’t finished yet!
*Changed the text and wording of the help guide for payments on the right hand column of the screen.
Thanks again for all of your feedback and suggestions; this is something that we have been working on to create less confusion during the checkout process and less work for our sellers! This would be the perfect time to go buy your most favorite item in your favorites list to see exactly how it works!

Okay, there are some good changes here. But why, oh why is it still not clear that the buyer has at this point entered a contract with the seller and *must* pay? Additionally, why isn’t it clear that Paypal payments must be made immediately?
I still see even those who are sellers on Etsy stating in the forums that all buyers have three days to pay, when this isn’t true. Etsy needs to get a lot better at making this crystal clear to everyone to help prevent the stress and hassle of dealing with non-paying buyers.
This final page of the checkout process - along with the page before you commit to the purchase - needs to contain this information in a very unmissable place.

Oh .. and another very disappointing thing is the fact that even after tweaking this page, there’s still no mention of which type of dollars the buyer is paying in. Two extra keystrokes would have fixed this - hardly a big deal seeing as they were editing the template anyway.

Yet another set of partial repairs…for the financial side of things. They don’t include language that lets buyers know that PayPal is also officially serving as a transaction processor for credit card transactions–buyers don’t NEED to have a PayPal account to conduct business.
There’s still quite a bit of goofiness with the fact that it’s one cart for orders from multiple vendors, and the words added won’t fix that.
It does appears to be a standard Etsy effort…fix something, ignore something, and then break something new and different…

Yes, it boggles the mind that they could fix part of it and still leave things undone. But as it is we are so thankful for the scraps we are thrown (gag).
