If you’ve perused the Etsy Gift Guides lately, you might’ve noticed some changes. Some new guides have been added and old guides have been cleaned out and refilled. Keep an eye out for forum threads asking for suggestions, like this one for the new “Her” Gift Guide (thread now closed).
Want to know if you’re in the Gift Guides? Go to Google and type in:
USERNAME site:http://www.etsy.com/gift-guides/
replacing “USERNAME” with your own Etsy username, with no spaces. (i.e. if your name is The Craft Store, use thecraftstore in your google search). Keep in mind that it may take Google some time to find and index the new pages.

I also noticed some repeats, the same item in multiple gift guides, and the same seller having multiple items in the same gift guide. But I did send Anda a suggested shop last week, not any friend of mine , no hidden agenda, just a very cool shop I had recently found that I thought would be great for a few different gift guides. She put one of their items in one of the gift guides. So they do seem to be open to suggestions.
I also think the admins don’t have a lot of time when filling the gift guides and are mostly relying on tags, so if you think your item would be good in the easter gift guide (for example) you have to tag it ‘easter’. Now that they have seasonal guides, go edit your items and add the appropriate seasons to the tags. In some cases they(admin) seem to add items that have relevant tags even if the item doesn’t fit the gift guide at all. There was one shop tagging all their items “eco-friendly” when the items were not recycled, upcycled, organic, or anything like that. Just normal items made from unused materials. That shop had 4 items in the eco-friendly guide before the recent revamp, which I think was just due to admins in a hurry and looking for relevant tags. Obviously I don’t advocate that kind of tag abuse but if your item does fit a specific guide, then tag it so admins can find it when they are looking for items to fill that guide. Admins will do whatever is easiest for them, so make your items easy to find and I think you can increase your chances of being in a gift guide.
