In this thread, Etsy admin kfarrell invites everyone to get a sneak peek of Etsy’s new “Bannerator” - a banner-generating tool.
kfarrell says:
Hey guys,
Anda and Matt are furiously preparing the Etsy Teams and resources section for some updates, but I wanted to leak a new tool Anda and I put together: The Bannerator! http://team.etsy.com/bannerdisplay.phpThe banner generator lets you easily make a 760×100 banner for your Etsy shop. Just enter your shop name / tagline, select a design, and click “Make me a banner!”
You can then save the banner to your computer and head on over to Your Etsy to upload it to your shop.
Enjoy!

But then again…we really needed a bannerator…
Ha… wayyyyy back in say July, 2007… WE, the sellers were BUSY SELLING ETSY’s 1 millionth item for them and generating 12 million in revenue with a 1 million dollar profit according to Businessweek…
http://www.alleyinsider.com/2007/07/etsy-sells-1-mi.html
AND what do we get in return when that 1 million profit was re-invested in OUR hard work? (uh..it was re-invested at least partially, right??)
A bannerator in January, 2008..which admittedly was “nothing…” according to admin that churns out industrial, mass produced “sameness” banners to the etsians. *scratches head* Instead of things that are needed terribly… of course it takes so much work to do those things that our programmers must play Guitar Hero and write stories about how hard it is to implement anything at Etsy…yeah..tough, I’m sure.
Yep…I’m through there..most definitely.

I don’t know that kfarrel started near september, just that she started sometime before that. It could be a month before or 6 months before. I was only curious who this “new employee running amok” was that eneepine kept mentioning, since I heard Etsy wasn’t hiring anyone else right now until all the engineer positions were filled. But that also could be incorrect, since I heard it in a chatroom.
Obviously both “new” and “amok” are subjective terms. ;)

” She is not new. She’s been with Etsy at least before September 2007″
I don’t know what this is all about but I would personally consider that new. If she started in or near September she probably hasn’t even worked there 6 months yet. I guess it’s all a matter of opinion and not really that important.

You’ve mentioned this new employee a few times before, you might have missed where I asked who you are referring to. Do you mean kfarrel? She is not new. She’s been with Etsy at least before September 2007, although I don’t know when she started. I was in a chatroom with her the other night and asked if she was working for Etsy in September and she said yes.

Oh! I know the answer to that one! It’s to make stepford banners! All the banners look the same or have the same aesthetic which ties into the narrow vision Etsy seems to foster. They’re turning newbies and the ones who lack computer skills into pod people!
Come to the dark side, we have free banners!
************************************************
They will NEVER get me alive! Muahahahahahaaaaa!!!!*edit*

Kate, I do believe Etsy would be a decidedly different place for all.
For one, I think the gash on my head would heal quickly given I would no longer be continually bashing it against a wall…..
