Blank Categories Rectified.

This morning when I logged into Etsy and looked at my favorite category, there was nothing in it.

RD says it’s fixed now. Some items are still not appearing in categories or search. It may behoove sellers to hold off on listing or renewing items until things appear to be fully functional again.

Early this morning, some of the categories on the site began to appear blank, as if there were no listings in them at all.Stranger still, the subcategories in these categories appear to be populated with listings.

We’ve since fixed this issue up, and we’re continuing to get everything on track. Two pieces of the system failed simultaneously, and to fix them we’ve had to turn off updating of the categories temporarily. Hopefully we’ll be able to turn the updating back on very soon.

We’ll post more when we have more info to share…

Experiences has told us that when RD says something is ‘fixed’, that doesn’t mean much. Usually it means it’s time to find examples to persuade him that actually it’s not fixed yet.

Sometimes I wonder when Etsy will just completely melt down in some way. This was a start, I guess. I don’t have much confidence in the people who have organized the entire system.

Oh thanks for posting this, I was about to list some items I finished last night! I hope he lets us know when the updater is working again. I want my 15 seconds of fame, haha.

For me it took exploiting another bug to get my bug-victim item to show up again.

Even after RD declared this thing fixed, one of my books would not show up. Not in the category, not in searches for titles, tags, combos of titles and/or tags, nothing. So I did what I learned from UEN — put the item in edit mode and then reactivate it.

With no changes made to the item, it just showed up again.

I’m so glad I knew to do that.

I was actually a little gleeful when I logged in and saw the Books & Zines category was completely empty this morning. It meant that I FINALLY got my wish to never see someone’s used magazines and junky yardsale craft how-to books in the category.

    FINALLY!

I think the updating is turned back on, I just listed some items and they shows on page 1 of the category.
