In this thread, a number of eagle-eyed Etsy users have noticed several apparent changes to titles and wording in sellers’ shops:
“Shop Announcement” now reads “YourName Shop Announcement”
“Featured Items” now reads “Featured Items from YourName”
“User Info” now reads “YourName’s Info”
“Other Items” now reads “YourName’s Other Items”
As well, a sold item listing now reads just “sold” rather than “sold out”.
Update:

Thanks for the support, everyone. We certainly know there’s a lot to do, and much of it centers around engineering-related challenges. We’ve been making a lot of progress and this upcoming year will bring some big steps forward. This latest small change (repeating the shop name on the shop homepage) was done for Search Engine Optimization (SEO) purposes.
And for the record, adding an apostrophe-s to the end of a shop name, like SomethingSomethingDesigns’s Other Items, is correct grammar:

Not only do we now have our username splashed all over our shops, we also get sarcasm and an English lesson from Rob.
Funny, if I implemented something in my business that plenty of customers voiced an issue with, the last thing I would do is try to piss them off further. In fact, I’d probably…you know….listen to them and compromise.

“A: Yes, The shop Announcement solution is coming. I sincerely apologize for the delay. Please remain patient ”
So…. if it’s not even done, why was the current “username Shop Announcement” put in there at all? Were they so excited they just couldn’t wait? Maybe they enjoy making us look dumb?
It really does look awful, like some amateur went wild with $user_name all over my shop.

Talk about overhiring. They have an employee whose sole job is to work on search engine optimization??
And um… this is what the came up with? I guess that’s different issue, but if I had an employee who did ONE thing only, I’d expect it to be flawless, well though out, state of the art, effective, expert level, etc.
Guess it doesn’t matter when you’re just spending VC money.
I wonder how much of Etsy’s monthly income (a loss, oh no!) goes to salaries, including fat salaries for the founders.

“The shop Announcement solution is coming …”
I’m wondering if this is a clue as to why so many of us have been left looking incompetent when it comes to consistent capitalisation after these changes.
An ’s in that spot would make me personally look slightly less illiterate than the current situation, but for those with the s’s problem it will make them look even worse and in a very obvious place. There’s no mention of whether the ’simonewalsh Shop Announcement’ capitalisation mess will be fixed though. I guess I can live in hope.
Hey, but at least the five people a year who use ’simonewalsh’ as a search term are going to find me right at the top of the results in Google. Oh wait … I’m right there already (for my own shop which doesn’t have that text written a single time on the page, but is properly optimised for search engines. There’s a lesson there).

Here, Admin Eric (username likeomg) says they are going to add the ’s to the shop announcement as well. Rather than removing it from the other areas, they are adding it to more places.

i don’t understand why they do little inappropriate changes instead of waiting to implement the whole change which makes the actual difference
i know we express impatience (if waiting a year can be called that) but they take forever…like they’re in the back chiseling out the computer chips or something. If they would just do ONE thing right and tell us in intelligent, non insulting ways what they’re working on there wouldn’t be an issue
*rolls eyes*

Thank you for that explanation, Simone. I appreciate it. It was shameful that it was locked in such a way, allowing for zero discussion. Very progressive.
Note however that RD linked incorrectly in his closing post. It appears that he was in a hurry to close it down quickly.

… (And my comment about this on The Storque article about the changes has been deleted. Progressive social values anyone?).
