In response to a question from DanielleDIY about features that have been removed, Chris/Revolving Dork (an Etsy owner, admin, and programmer) says:
RevolvingDork says:
The sampler, which contained the lists you spoke of above, has been gone for a few months — it’s not a new change. As the site grows, we will be adding and removing features as necessity dictates. This is not a strictly “subtractive” process — there are always things being added to the site as well.
For example, when we moved to version 2 in November, Alchemy was taken down, as there was not time to rebuild it in the new system. However, we added shop sections, context-sensitive searching, shipping templates, larger banners, a fifth listing image, a shopping cart, an improved admin interface, kiss and make up, order status checkboxes, conversation tagging, and a host of other new additions. Since then, even more has been added to better serve the community.
We’re working on bringing Alchemy back, in addition to a few other secret projects, but there are a number of more pressing issues that take precedence over those features.

“as necessity dictates”
does that mean Etsy is under a state of triage?

That’s been clear to me for a while.

triage… that’s the phrase I’ve been using since before v2 launch. :)
From observation, it seems to me that they’ve stripped the site to try to get the basics working, then they’ll begin rebuilding the features one at a time. 5+ months later we’re still not in a fully working stage, so I imagine it will be awhile. I think there’s an Etsy Blog post stating something about being operational again for the next Christmas season (end of 2007).

roger that. I hope they use all their resources in all the right areas. Uff da.

And with that quote, Chris locked the thread. Personally, the discussion seemed to go back on track so I don’t see why it was locked. *shrug*
((( Dyno, thanks )))
Triage has always been the mode. It was implied during the last book club etsy was growing in pace with its revenues, but I think they need more resources put to making the place glitch-free and if that means more bodies to handle things like specific projects, PR with the users, etc., as well as putting out fires as they arise, they really need to commit or find those resources. The latter hardly seems like “growth.”
