Treasury West is now history

jared says:

With the successful update and transfer of the regular Treasury, we no longer have a testing need for the Treasury West.

Today I have disabled the creation of new lists in the Treasury West. The existing lists will be allowed to expire naturally. When all lists are expired, the Treasury list will be removed from the site.

Thanks to everyone who helped in these important tests.

Alas! I think the way the West was always filled up, with 400+ lists or so shows that Etsy-land cries out for more than a few hundred split between 500,000 people. Hopefully they’ll expand the capacity of the main one, or split it in two.

The Treasury is great, but waiting around forever to make a list is kind of silly.

I liked the treasury west because it was so easy to get a treasury, but inevitably whenever I made one late at night, the treasury west would be crashed by the time I got up the next day. So I started not wanting to waste the effort. The other thing is, very few people viewed those treasuries because it wasn’t linked on the Buy page. It was fairly useless as a promotional tool.

What I really think would be great is allow every user, buyers and sellers, to make their own treasuries in their shops. Let them have maybe 2 each at any given time and it lasts forever until you want to make a new one in it’s place. So when you’re in my shop there would be a link to treasuries I curated. Trunkt has this feature now.
Let us give the treasuries tags like items have tags. If you make a treasury of blue things your tag would be blue, if you make a treasury of all pottery you’d use pottery and ceramics in your tags, etc. Then buyers could search treasuries by tags and see curated selections of items in the theme they are interested in, as well as just seeing treasuries in all their favorite shops.

I kind of like how Handmade Market and Trunkt have Treasury-like features that are not Flash, they’re just like normal web pages…
If Etsy would do that, the entire thing would be so much easier to deal with - no crashing, no need to get external hosting, it would run much faster on everyone machine, and so on. Then, it would be possible for everyone could have one, because the lists wouldn’t be running on this complicated, resource intensive server thing like the Etsy Treasury.
