Etsy shares some site stats

In this thread, stellaloella shared some sites stats:

I asked around to the people who have access to the stats, and I was told:

* Our overall site traffic is up.
* The number of items listed keeps going up.
* We had a “banner sales day” yesterday.

I was also told that in terms of retail trends, October and May are the toughest months for the majority of businesses.

The STorque today reported some more detailed stats for October.
http://www.etsy.com/storque/section/etsyNews/article/etsy-statistics-weather-report-from-the-storque-newscast/541/

Registrations: Etsy had almost 40,000 new buyers register in October (does this number include new sellers registering too?)
Listings: 376,539 new items listed, which is an increase of 20% over the number of new items listed in September.
Page views: 162,907,375 page views in October, a 23% increase over September
Number of sales: sales of 218,455 items (20% increase over September)
Gross sales: “$2,966,160 worth of handmade goods sold for the month” (21% increase over September)

some dollar amounts:
376,539 new items listed x .20 cents= 75,307.80 for Etsy
$2,966,160 in gross sales x 3.5% = 103,815.60 for Etsy
total 179,123.40 for Etsy
(not counting showcase sales and I’m not sure if it’s counting renewals before an item expires within the “new listing” number)

They have now edited the article. The sales figure represented all sales, not just the sales of handmade items.

winenutnyc says:

Hi- The number is the total figure, so it does include vintage and supplies.
I’ll clarify it and update the story. Sorry for the confusion.

the new edited version says

All the new items and all of that traffic generated sales of 218,455 items (20% increase), representing $2,966,160 worth of goods sold for the month (21% increase)

they have removed the word handmade.
Thank you for the clarification, winenutnyc

The stats reported on the Etsy site are so edited that they have little value for 99% of the stores. The highest sellers and money makers are CRAFT SUPPLIES and Etsy needs to break that out. In addition, Etsy needs to reveal that new listings outweigh sales 2 to 1, that the top 20 sellers are ALL supplies, and admit to the fact that Etsy is, by and large, a CRAFTS SUPPLIES site.
Once Etsy admits that fact, then let’s hope that they are involved in serious discussions within the company to split Etsy into 2 sites - one for products, and one for supplies/vintage.
Not only would this make a huge improvement on all Search functions, it will clear things up for our shoppers and customers.
