In this thread, Etsy admin Iheartmoustaches gives an update on restructuring supplies category:
We are still working on the category restructuring and are focusing on the supplies section to be the first to undergo the reorganization. … It is not definite, but we are planning on combining both handmade with commercial supplies, and are working on a special filter to separate them while browsing or searching. …
[T]his new category structure will also include a few changes to the item listing process that will prevent commercial and handmade from bleeding together. We are also working on a way to filter commercial and handmade as well.
It is unclear if this is a change from previous admin statements:
* In the near future, commercial supplies will be separated from the handmade items and will not appear in default search results (”opt-in” search status).

This whole Etsy commercial vs. handmade thing is just so weird. the site is like split personality.
When I started on here, people trying to have bead stores were all like “Hey, I buy too many beads! Gosh, got to destash some of these…”. With some people (like me…) this obviously wasn’t completely true. We want to make money by retailing beads.
Then, it was allowed without any real clarification, that I could see. But still people just trying to provide a good service for beads on Etsy are discriminated against. And, I can see why.. Etsy is supposed to be for stuff you make yourself, obviously. And I don’t want to harm that mission… so as a supply seller, I would LOVE for them to hurry up and fix their philosophy and the separation of the two in a way everyone can feel good about.
