Users wishing to keep a buyer-only account had better make sure they never experiment with listing their work under that account. Once an account is registered as a seller’s account, it will always be a seller’s account.
Chillionaire says:
We have been told by our engineers that they are unable to return accounts
to buyer-only status once it has been registered as a seller’s account. I’m
very sorry, we are doing all we can to remedy the situation.–Lori

Rather unfortunate, if you ask me.
Ps. Greytlife is a huge asset to Etsy… and hands down one of my best customers. Regardless of the fact that she’s one of my customers, Etsy would be at a huge loss if she were to leave.

I don’t believe Admin’s answer for a minute. Greytlife stated that after she had contacted Admin about this issue, her account reverted back to a buyer’s account for a short period of time, then changed back again to a seller’s account.
I believe that they are perfectly capable of fixing this problem for her…..if they wanted to.

all i can hope is that as buyers are systematically dissuaded from using the site, they take the off-etsy contact details for their favourite buyers with them
this is a powerful hint to sellers to set up an off-etsy portal for selling their items too

When Etsy first stated that they planned to close or delete inactive seller accounts after six-months of no activity, wasn’t there a suggestion to change those accounts to buyer-only status, rather than remove them completely? I thought that admin reasponded favorably to that suggestion - or was I just dreaming? I guess that might present a problem, seeing as the seller stats are set to remain on permanent record. Couldn’t immediately track down the thread(s) where that was discussed, but I’ll look again later.
