A Slightly Improved Update on Category/Search Problems

From thread version six:

RevolvingDork says:
Hi all,

Last thursday we caught up with all of the older listings that were not appearing in searches and the categories. After that, however, newly created listings were only appearing several hours after they were listed.

This is due to the system receiving far more listing updates than it can handle in a short period of time. We’re working on optimizing this system so the delay between listing and appearing in searches is shortened. As we stated at the beginning of the week, we hope to have it all straightened out by the end of this week. We’re just about ready to push out our improved extra-careful replication software and run the final catch-up script — when that’s done, everything will be where it’s supposed to be. If the final tests come out well, the catch-up script will run throughout the weekend and we’ll be set.

In the meantime, listings will only appear in their categories several hours to several days after they are created. Please note that they will still appear in real time in your shop, the time machine, and listing tickers, and all other flash applications.

Because the search cache is not being updated as quickly as it should be, you may see sold listings coming up in search and browser results. This is caused by the same problem, and will be fixed when the system is back up to speed.

We apologize for any inconvenience this has caused, and we will post updates as we make progress towards shrinking the lag between listing time and “searchable” time.

Why does this keep getting posted? If they haven’t changed what they’re saying, I don’t understand why you’d spam UEN with these posts.

EDIT BY ELIZABETH: Gemma did not make this comment - it was made by someone impersonating her, before we required registration.

    EDIT: August 14 by Soap

The post above made by the impersonator was made from IP address:

    71.58.222.47

Some info on that ID may be found at
    http://www.ip2location.com/demo.aspx

Just submit the IP address above.

On the same day of the post here (June 22), the same IP address also impersonated me and posted another comment.

The impersonator seems to have been a busy bee and on the SAME DAY (June 22), the Etsy article on wikipedia.com registered the same IP address (aka impersonator) as deleting an entry on the Etsy article on wikipedia relating to Privacy. Owen of wikipedia restored the deleted portions -

http://en.wikipedia.org/w/index.php?title=Etsy&action=history (entire history of wiki edits - scan down to June 22 activity)
http://en.wikipedia.org/w/index.php?title=Etsy&diff=139998134&oldid=137410246 (compares the version before 71.58.222.47 deleted)
http://en.wikipedia.org/w/index.php?title=Etsy&diff=next&oldid=139998134 (showing OwenX’s restoration of the deleted text)

Stay tuned, I may have more to post.

They did change some of it this time, indicating a projected resolution date. Thus, I posted it.

If you look at earlier versions, if they were identical, we didn’t post.

But If you think this should be edited differently, please feel free. Won’t bother me.

I don’t think it’s spam. I appreciate it when someone goes to the trouble of (basically) looking at posts for me and showing me what in the script has been updated/changed. Beside that, instead of just filtering it completely, these posts lets me draw my own conclusions about how/with what admin. is updating us.

In any case, more information is better than no information, even if some of it is repetitive (I’m referring to knowing when these admin. “updates occur).

I agree with maria. I’ve been coming here to get the highlighted version so I don’t have to go to the trouble of finding the other 5 posts and pasting them into Merge to figure out what’s changed.

it’s also newsworthy that the same post is being rehashed as news on etsy …..

That’s a very interesting update about the impostor and the wikipedia vandal, soap.

If anyone doesn’t know wikipedia etiquette, you are not supposed to remove sections of articles without listing a reason. To erase sections without a reason is considered vandalism. When anyone edits wikipedia without a registered account, their IP number displays to all viewers.

This IP address appears to be high speed and static, which is a definite indicator that the impostor here was the same person as the wikipedia editor, especially since both events happened on the same day. High speed static IPs are more traceable than dial-up companies like AOL. If the IP number had been AOL, that is almost worthless because AOL IPs are so dynamic, and two or more users on opposite ends of the country might use the same AOL IP number on the same day.

Also note that this is the etsy article on wikipedia.com, and NOT etsy’s own freestanding wiki that was vandalized.
