Duplicate Item Listing Error

Several people have posted threads in the Etsy fora about a problem with duplicate items appearing after a listing, and when deleting one, both items are deleted, resulting in having to start over again with the listing.

The workaround seems to be that if you edit one of the items and click finish, the other will go away. In some cases, the duplicate has stuck around for a while, though. Whatever you do, don’t delete one of the duplicates; both listings will be deleted. And if you just can’t get the problem to go away, email support@etsy.com.

Probably related is the problem I had today with an item appearing in triplicate when a buyer visited my shop, but only showing up once in my “Your Etsy” page and when I viewed my shop using the “view shop” link. In other words, I had no indication that the listing had been duplicated from my end, but it apparently was being displayed that way to some others.

The buyer saw three identical items listed and wanted to buy them all, but the cart would only let her buy the one real item. She e-mailed me wondering what was up. I am fortunate it was an experienced Etsier who wasn’t put off by a technical glitch!

I started another thread in the bugs topic:

And you might add to this to remind the seller to check their bill, and e-mail admin if they get charged twice, which occasionally happens.
